Big Memory in a Tiny Package: Flash Drives to Go

The Best of PCWorld

I don't really think in metric. To really get a sense of something's size, I first have to convert the numbers to inches, feet, miles...what have you. So when I was staring at a picture of the Verbatim Tuff 'n' Tiny flash drive in Melissa J. Perenson's slide show ("8 Miniature Flash Drives"), I wasn't sure just how petite it really was. So I did the math, and now I'm impressed. Turns out its stated dimensions--12.7mm wide, 30.2mm long and 1.5mm thick--comes out to something like a half inch by 1.2 inches, with a wafer-thin 20th of an inch thickness. That's not bad for a drive that can pack as much as 16GB of storage. Not all the drives depicted are as tiny, but they've all got something to recommend them. Take a look, and see just how much today's flash drives have matured.
