Nokia seems to be increasing it’s efforts to improve it’s poor market share in the US Market. The latest move is a new developer contest in partnership with AT&T. Is this an indication that the Symbian^3 handsets including the N8 are hitting AT&T this holiday season ?Calling All Innovators contest highlights mobile content for North America

San Francisco, CA, USA – Developers now have 10 million more reasons to create their next great app on Nokia smartphones. Nokia and AT&T* announced today an unprecedented developer contest with USD 10 million in cash and prizes. Winning applications are selected by Nokia, AT&T and, for the first time, by consumers who can use their downloading power to indicate their favorites.

The 2010 Calling All Innovators, North America contest is open to developers from around the world to create apps for North American consumers. All submitted apps will be made available exclusively for download via the Ovi Store by Nokia which is filled with thousands of apps, games and media from the content industry’s biggest names along with independent developers. With AT&T as the exclusive co-judge, developers have a unique opportunity to get started today developing for the latest Nokia devices including the Nokia N8.

Nokia, in conjunction with AT&T, is also inviting developers to a free session, hosted during CTIA Enterprise and Applications in San Francisco, for a special tour of Qt and Nokia Web Runtime and Java tools. Additionally, each participating developer will receive a complimentary Nokia N8 developer pack from Nokia. Developers can register for the free session at: http://www.ctiaenterpriseandapps.com/events/eventdetails.cfm/1154

Developers have until January 28th, 2011, to submit their applications in more than 17 categories. For the first time, consumers will contribute to the finalist selection process by “voting” with their download power; the number of downloads – both free and paid – counts as part of the winning criteria. The final judging will be made by Nokia and AT&T where three winners in each category will be selected. Additionally, an overall contest app and game will be selected as grand prize winners. Category prize winners receive USD 150K each for a total of USD 4 million and grand prize winners receive an additional USD 100K each. Although submissions must be relevant for the North American consumer, developers from around the world can participate.

Winning developers will also receive more than USD 6 million in marketing promotion by Nokia and AT&T in the North American market.
“The commitment from Nokia is a clear message that we are serious about the North American market,” said Purnima Kochikar, VP Forum Nokia. “Developers have the tools, the support from AT&T and the marketing power of Nokia to get visibility for their apps”, she added. “Additionally, developers can make their Qt-based app available in Ovi Store to Nokia customers globally reaching tens of millions of customers.”

First official microSIM cards arrive in India on Airtel

We already told you about the MicroSIM card and that Airtel was planning to launch the iPhone in India by September or October this year. We just got an interesting tip from a user who actually got a call from Airtel citing that a microSIM card is available. He went ahead and got one and shared these pics with us.

Airtel India microSIM

Airtel is calling it a H-2 Card and it was packed in September 2010 according to the pictures. Looks like all these pics were taken with the iPhone 4. The user also claims that the microSIM fits into the iPhone 4 microSIM tray very well but was disappointed that there was no adapter to covert the microSIM to a full SIM. More pics after the jump.

T-Mobile LG Optimus will feature a WiFi calling ability?

Posted: 23 Sep 2010 12:43 PM PDT

TmoNews is reporting that the T-Mobile LG Optimus is going to have a WiFi calling ability, really? As you can see in the image above, have a look on reason #2 and you will see that “Flexibility to make calls during broadband internet connection via WiFi hotspot without using your minutes.” That’s a very good features, and I am sure everyone want this feature in their phone, but not everyone is kind like T-Mo and LG.  T-Mobile LG Optimus is actually the LG Optimus One, which was launched by LG a few days ago, and Verizon is also taking this device. We have seen this device in T-Mobile’s documents too, so I hope we’ll see this device next month.

Is Facebook working on an Android phone with INQ?

Posted: 23 Sep 2010 11:37 AM PDT

Rumors are on the street that Facebook is currently working on a phone. The original source of the rumor is TechCrunch. Facebook spokesperson told Mashable that the rumor is not accurate and we are not working on any phone. Is he trying to hide something? May be yes, because when Mark Zuckerberg sat down with Techcrunch, then Micheal Arrington talked to him about the Facebook phone, on which he said:

On phones we can actually do something better. We can do a single sign-on if we do a good integration with a phone, rather than just doing something where you go to an app and it’s automatically social or having to sign into each app individually. Those are the two options on the web. Why not for mobile? Just make it so that you log into your phone once, and then everything that you do on your phone is social.

If Facebook is not working on any phone, then Zuckerberg can clearly say “No”, but he didn’t. I think Mark is also hiding something, and he don’t want to reveal it now because he is waiting for the right time. Bloomberg is also reporting that Facebook is working with INQ on two handsets, which will be powered by Android, and will be exclusive to AT&T. Is Facebook trying to make another KIN-type phone? There are millions of Facebook users and fans in the world, who love spending most of their time on Facebook. So I am sure that Facebook phone will not be a fail like the KIN. What do you guys think about a Facebook phone?

Pricing leaked for Vodafone HTC Desire HD

Posted: 23 Sep 2010 10:46 AM PDT

Folks over at Android Central got their hands on a leaked image which is showing  price details about the Vodafone HTC Desire HD. As we can see in the image above, the Desire HD is going for €359 on contract, which is actually $480, and it’s for sure a very high price for a contract. If you want the device without any contract, then you have to pay €519, which $619. I think the contract price is only for one year, that’s why it’s expensive. Because 1  year contract price is always near to the unlock device price, and high too. So what I think is that this is a one year contract price. So you don’t need to think that this is a 2 or 3 year contract price, but it would be good if we wait for Vodafone to come out and announce the pricing for it officially.
