Posted: 30 Sep 2010 08:56 PM PDT

Wall Street Journal always come up with some good news. This time they are reporting that Microsoft and AT&T will officially unveil a line up Windows Phone 7 powered phones on October 11th, and AT&T will bring the devices in stores in early November. Microsoft is holding an event on Oct.11 (the rumor might be true), which is known as “Columbus Day” and it’s somewhere in New York City. It’s not confirmed that Microsoft will launch something on that day. So you can take this as a rumor, so stay tuned. I hope we’ll hear some official words soon from AT&T or Microsoft !

Sprint launching Samsung Transform and Sanyo Zio?

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 04:15 PM PDT

Sprint is also considering on Android like T-Mobile and Verizon. They recently announced the EPIC 4G, which comes with a sliding-QWERTY keyboard. Now as you can see the image, which is showing that the Samsung Transform and Kyocera Sanyo Zio are coming to Sprint. Samsung Transform is actually the Samsung Galaxy S, which is specially coming out for people who don’t like the EPIC 4G and think it’s too big and heavy. As we know that Galaxy S series runs Android 2.1, so the Samsung Transform will come with Android 2.1 too or may be 2.2 if it comes out after the update launch, and the Sanyo Zio will feature Android 1.6 and it’s already available on Cricket since August. It’s good that Sprint is bringing the Galaxy S keyboard-less version, so it will be good for customers to choose. Anyone interested in it?

Samsung Omnia 7 (GT-i8700?) coming out next month?

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 02:32 PM PDT

Samsung is one of the strongest mobile phone manufacture in the world. Samsung main power is their low and mid-end phones, but that doesn’t mean Samsung don’t how to make high end phones. We saw the Samsung Galaxy S, which is one of the most popular and strongest phones. Samsung do love Android, but they are also considering on Windows Phone 7. Samsung declared that they will bring several Windows Phone 7 powered devices this year. And as we know that Samsung Cetus and GT-i8700 are one of them. Samsung is not launching their first Windows device, all the Samsung Omnia series devices are Windows powered, only the one is on Symbian. And now words are going around that Samsung Omnia 7 to be among the first available WP7 powered handsets and it will be out in October, and I think the Gt-i8700 could be the Samsung Omnia 7. We already know about the Samsung Cetus, which is going to AT&T. The Samsung GT-i8700 is bound for UK, so may be we will see it on a UK mobile carrier next month.

Verizon Wireless roadmap leaked again !

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 02:18 PM PDT

A few months ago, Verizon Wireless roadmap was leaked, which let us know that a lot of new devices are coming to Verizon. And now we have it again, but this time with a little changes.Engadget got tipped by multiple sources today, and it’s a great new for all people who live in USA and currently a Verizon Wireless fan. After the break, you will see a chart in which you will see that multiple Blackberry and Android devices are coming to Verizon Wireless. So folks check it out after the break and see what’s coming to Verizon Wireless:

  • The BlackBerry 9570 Storm3 has been canceled. It could still launch somewhere, but it won’t be on Verizon, apparently — and considering that it was shaping up to be an ever-so-slightly-retuned Storm2, we can’t say we blame them.
  • The Tour, Bold 9650, and Curve 3G will all get updates in October. “Known issues” and the like.
  • Samsung SCH-i400 Continuum on tap for late October. We’d heard from our other source that it’d be on tap for early November, but either way, the wait shouldn’t be a long one. It’s got a 1GHz processor and is known internally by the codename “Garnett.”
  • Motorola Venus in October. This is an interesting one — Verizon bills it as having “BlackBerry look and feel” with a QWERTY keyboard up front below the screen, possibly mimicking T-Mobile’s Charm, but higher-end thanks to a 1GHz processor and both CDMA and GSM / HSPA radios on top of Froyo.
  • Motorola Droid Pro tentatively scheduled for late October or early November. It’s listed as having a 1.3GHz processor, Froyo, global radios, and Flash 10. We still have every reason to believe this is the phone we’ve been calling the Droid 2 World Edition (or Global Edition), but it’s unclear whether it’ll replace the Droid 2 altogether.
  • HTC Merge / Lexicon / Lexikon coming in late October / early November, too. Don’t be fooled: all of these code names refer to the same device, and even Verizon’s communication uses both “Merge” and “Lexicon” interchangeably. As expected, it’s a global phone with a 1GHz Snapdragon.
  • LG enV Pro — with Android — coming in November. In all likelihood, this is the phone we referred to as the enV Touch 2 back in August. It’ll maintain the enV Touch form factor and feature a 1GHz processor plus a global radio, making it the best enV (and frankly, possibly the best Android phone from LG anywhere in the world) to date.
  • Motorola Stingray tablet in Q1 of 2011. Now this is interesting. We’d previously thought the Stingray would be a smaller tablet, but it now seems it’ll be a full 10 inches with Android 3.0 Gingerbread, 16GB of on-board storage, and Tegra 2. Oh, but that’s not the best part: it’ll also be “hardware upgradeable to LTE,” initially launching with CDMA alone. Whether that means you’ll need to purchase and insert some sort of module or something, we’re not exactly sure.
  • FiveSpot next month, three USB modems for LTE in November, LTE MiFi after that. After a few fleeting rumors that it had been deep-sixed, it seems that the ZTE-sourced FiveSpot mobile hotspot will finally launch on October 7. We’ll then get a trio of USB LTE modems in November from LG, Pantech, and Novatel — perfect for Verizon’s first round of commercial LTE launches — and an LTE MiFi (from Novatel, naturally) either in the fourth quarter or first quarter. The “initial launch” of it will be domestic only, presumably meaning no GSM support.
  • So here it is folks. All I can say is that we are going to see a lot of good stuff at Verizon in few months. Well, I can’t see any CDMA iPhone 4, or a WP7 powered device. So all we have is Android. Anyone excited about it?

Recently we saw the HTC Mondrian in AT&T advertisement, and we know that the Mondrian is coming to AT&T, and it could be their first WP7 device. And now our friends over at BestBoyz.de got their hands on the press shots of the HTC Mondrian, and we can see that the phone is really beautiful, of course it’s HTC. HTC Mondrian features at least a 1 GHz processor, WVGA touchscreen display, 3.5mm headset jack, megapixel camera with flash, and a 3.5 mm headset jack. That’s all we know about the Mondrian. Did you miss the chance to pre-order the T-Mobile G2, then there is a better and a quick way to get it. Engadget got their hands on a leaked RadioShack flyer, which is showing that the RadioShack will be the first one to bring the T-Mobile G2 in USA, because they are bringing the T-Mobile G2 in their stores on October 3rd, which is three days earlier than T-Mobile and others. As you can see in the image above, the phone is going for $149.99 with a 2-yr agreement with a $30 data feature. So anyone getting the US HTC Desire Z from The Shack on October 3rd? Samsung is bringing a new Galaxy S member to Verizon Wireless, and the codename of the phone is Samsung I-400. As we can see Verizon branding on the phone, so it’s confirm that it’s coming to Verizon in few months. Samsung I-400 a.k.a Continuum features dual display, as you can see in the image below, you will see a little display under the buttons. We can also see Bing Search engine and TouchWiz 3.0, and it’s rumored that the phone is running Android 2.1. I hope we’ll see the device during the holiday time. So what’s the secondary OLED display for? The second display is know as Ticker, and it’s show you date & time,  notifications and RSS updates, and weather. The Ticker automatically turns on when you grasp the phone from bottom. There is a dedicated camera button on the site, and also a microSD card slot. Anyone looking forward to it?

MidRange Battle: Nokia E5 vs C5 Specs Comparison And Picture Gallery

    Posted: 30 Sep 2010 01:00 AM PDT

The Nokia C5 and E5 are part of the relatively new Nokia line-up of devices, after the naming convention change. Both are middle class in their series, with the C5 being more a classic phone, and the E5 more an Enterprise phone, with a full QWERTY keyboard. Despite belonging to two different categories, both bare a striking resemblance, design-wise, hardware-wise, and software-wise.

On a hardware basis, the C5 has a 2.2″ transmissive screen at a 240×320 resolution with 24bit colors. It has a total volume of 56.2cc and weighs about 89g, with a 600 MHz processor and a 1050 mAh battery that can be charged both by the regular charger and microUSB. The connectivity options are limited to Bluetooth, EDGE, 3G and HSUPA, with no Wi-Fi on board. Storage-wise, it has 50MB of internal memory, 128MB of RAM, and comes with a 2GB hot-swappable microSD. As for the camera, it’s a 3.2MP EDoF camera.

The E5, on the other hand, has a larger 2.4″ transmissive screen at a 320×240 resolution with only 18bit colors. It weighs much more at 126g and has a larger volume of 75cc. It features quick access to a torch and a bluetooth toggle, and has a dedicated Messaging button. It also comes with a 600MHz processor and a much optimized 1200 mAh battery that can also be charged by a regular 3-pin or microUSB. Its connectivity options are the same as the C5, but it adds support for WiFi. As for storage, it has a whopping 250MB of internal memory, 256MB of RAM which should both guarantee a problem-free usage, and a 2GB non hot-swappable microSD. It has a 5MP EDoF camera.

Software-wise, both handsets are S60 3rd Edition FP2, which is Nokia’s most perfected OS to date, with support for OTA updates and Access Point prioritization thanks to Destinations, as well as a lot of nice options for the homescreen including the Contacts Bar design that lets you access communications with your favorite contacts in an instant. The E5 also supports the Active homescreen, known from the E71/E72 that lets you Switch Modes from Business to Personal, as well as have an integrated view of your missed calls and unread SMS. Predictive text is present on both handsets, with the C5 being able to pick two languages simultaneously for text entry on the T9, whereas the E5 only lets you pick one.

They both come with a slew of Ovi/Nokia apps installed, like Ovi Contacts, Ovi Store, Ovi Maps with free navigation, Ovi Music, Ovi Sync, Nokia Messaging, Chat, Share Online, Music Search, Real player. They also both come with office applications namely Dictionary, Zip, Adobe PDF, but the QuickOffice version of the C5 is read-only (you need to pay to upgrade to a read-and-write version), whereas the E5 one is a full read-and-write version. They both have a dedicated Facebook application that integrates with the Contacts phonebook as we demo’ed earlier. The C5 adds one game, Bounce Tales. The E5 adds a lot more pre-installed apps, like Ovi Files, Shazam, Podcasting, Microsoft Communicator, Intranet, Font Magnifer, Vlingo, Bloomberg, AP Mobile.

Now that we’ve outlined the differences, let’s get into a more detailed picture hardware tour of both handsets. First up is the front design of the two handsets. Notice the similar middle silver band, d-pad and functions keys, the raised and rounded keyboard/keypad keys, and the black rim around the screen.

Seen from the sides, you can clearly spot the similarities of the curves between the C5 & E5, which gives them a significantly identical feel in the hand.

The left and bottom sides of both devices are void of anything, apart from the strap hook on the C5′s left.

On the right side, the C5 has volume keys and the microSDHC door. The E5 has volume keys and the strap hook.

The top of both handsets has the microUSB port, the 3-pin charging hole, and the 3.5mm headset plug.

On the back, both handsets have the same brushed aluminum battery cover, with a rounded edge design, and their respective cameras. Both are recessed a bit to avoid scratches, with the E5 featuring a more significant recess and a design over the camera.

Under the battery cover are the 1020 mAh and 1200 mAh batteries for the C5 and E5 respectively. The E5′s microSDHC tray is located below the battery.

And finally here are two photos of the E5 and C5 turned on, to show the identical Contacts Bar homescreen and Facebook application.

Eventually, if you’re torn between both handsets, it all comes down to a few differences. QWERTY and T9 is the most obvious one, then you’ll see that the E5 is significantly larger and heavier but that allows it to pack more RAM, more internal memory, WiFi, more battery power, a better camera, and a few more pre-installed apps, while compromising on the hot-swappable memory card and the screen color definitions.

Are you a fan of the design language on this new lineup from Nokia? And when it comes to QWERTY or T9, which one do you prefer, and are the C5/E5 something you’re interested in?
